A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose...
26 January 2011

But that`s not exactly the case.  There are more to roses than you think - different types, meanings for their colours and other interesting tidbits that the average consumer may not know.  But don`t you fret, the Pistil Team will lay it all out for you here, just in time for Valentine`s Day.

Types of Roses

We have two different types of roses in the store in preparation for Valentine`s Day:

1. Garden Roses - They are mostly hybrid roses that are grown as ornamental plants.  They are the one of the most popular and wildly cultivated group of flowering plants.  And they are staple at Pistil!!

2. Spray Roses - They are generally smaller than a garden rose and can usually be spotted by the many rosettes on each stem.

3. T-Roses - They are similar to Garden Roses, but more round in shape.  We currently don`t have any of these in store, but they are scheduled to arrive in time for Valentine`s Day.

Roses and Their Meanings

Before you shop for a Valentine`s bouquet, you may want to know the meanings behind rose colours.

Red - Passionate Love
White and Red - Unity / Inseperable Love
White - Purity / Spiritual Feeling / Innocence
Yellow - Admiration / Hope
Orange - Secret Love
Pink - Friendship
Purple - First Love / Sweet Love

Interesting Facts

- With proper care, roses can last as long as 4 weeks!
- Red and pink roses last the longest
- Rose plants can last on average 6 years in greenhouses
- Roses are grown all over the world - USA, Israel, Africa, Malaysia, Colombia, India and Holland
- Rose growers can produce a new colour in roses, but it can take up to 10 years to come up with the right combination

So next time you hear the saying, "A Rose Is A Rose, Is a Rose...", very kindly remind the person saying it that, in actual fact, roses vary in style, colour and meaning!

And just a reminder that, if you are looking to purchase roses from Pistil for your loved one on Valentine`s Day, please places orders early.  Customers are already placing orders with us and it`s not even February yet!! And red roses (Passionate Love!) are in very high demand, so be sure to let us know well in advance.
