With the official wedding season winding down, we wanted to take some time to reflect on the year. There were a lot of weddings that stood out but there was one in particular that we especially loved for its modern edge. That combined with a bride who gave us what most florist only dream of when it comes to wedding work – lots of creative freedom – made this one the most memorable wedding of the year.

Breaking away from tradition, Katie, the bride, put a contemporary twist on all elements of the celebration. From the dress to the flowers to the venue, this truly was a cosmopolitan wedding in the city. And despite a few drops of rain, nothing could hinder this from being an exquisite day.   

The dress: In lieu of the traditional strapless silhouette, Katie really rocked this sexy, one-shoulder Lanvin dress. Fussy ruching, puffy crinolines and metre long trains are not on the shopping list of the modern bride.

The flowers: Another unconventional choice was the flowers.   Her deep plum bouquet was filled black sweet peas, black callas and pulsatilla (pasque flower).   The intense hues made for a striking contrast against her champagne dress.

The venue: After the church ceremony, guests were invited for an intimate reception at an authentic Parisian bistro in the city. The space was lined with masses of cherry blossoms. This was simple yet impactful way to bring spring indoors.
 

Katie might have been ahead of the curve. Or maybe it was the Hollywood effect. Well at least the non Kim Kardashian way of wedding planning. We’re finding more and more brides are forgoing the big banquet halls, elaborate gowns and lengthy guest lists for something more intimate and, ultimately, more personal.  Katie stylishly proved how beautiful this can be.
