Grafted Cactus: Here’s a great gift for the unconventional Dad. Maybe he’s a science buff or an admirer of the weird and wonderful. Either way, he will appreciate a Grafted Cactus. Grafting is the process of connecting two living plant tissues to each other so that they grow as one entity. The art and science of grafting dates back over 3,000 years to Ancient China and has yielded some pretty incredible results.
Pencil Cactus: So maybe the grafted cactus is a bit too bizarre for your Dad. Perhaps the Pencil Cactus might be more his style. Also known as milk bush, this tropical plant is actually not a true cactus but part of the Euphorbia family. Native to India and Africa, the Pencil Cactus is often used in Southwest U.S. landscape and makes for a wonderful house plant. This non-cactus is named after its pencil-like bright green branches that protrude off the main branch in all sorts of unusual angles.

Coconut Orchid: If you think Dad would prefer something leafy rather than prickly, we’ve got just the thing from the orchid family. Most are drawn to orchids for their extraordinary blooms. But imagine a beautiful blossom that smells like Piña Colada. The Coconut Orchid is a small flowered plant with fine, long leaves and dark red blooms that emit a sweet coconut scent. Sure Dad might love a tropical vacation. The delicate aroma of the Coconut Orchid might be the next best thing.
Just a few ideas for the difficult-to-buy-for Dad.
