Luck O` The Irish
16 March 2010

Happy St. Paddies everyone! The Irish contingent here at Pistil Flowers is in the mood to share with you some interesting Irish Floral Factoids. In the floral world there are many more fresh options to celebrate the day other than with shamrocks and clover!   Native flowers to Ireland include Foxglove, Irises, Dog Rose, Daisies and a number of wild orchids. There are even flowers and garden plants named after the Celtic country such as Bells of Ireland, St. Patrick Hybrid Tea Rose, and the Irish Eyes Daisy.

You don’t even have to go all Irish to celebrate the day.   A selection is all-green flower arrangements are a modern choice to celebrate the occasion. Green wonder mums, Green Goddess Callas, Green Hydrangea, Cabbage Rose, and green Orchids are just a few examples of all-green flowers. The bouquets given to the athletes at the Olympics in shades of green are a great example of interest being created with texture, even though the flowers themselves were monochromatic.
And to close, a classic Irish quote, and one of my grandfather’s favourites: “May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live”.
Sláinte!
