The Big Bamboo!
02 February 2011

Have you been by the store lately?? We have quite a large installation in place, just in time for Valentine`s Day.  We call it "The Big Bamboo!"

Wondering how we were inspired to create this structure?

The Big Bambu Installation last year at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Artists, Doug and Mike Starn, were invited by The MET to install this structure for the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden.  When all was said and done, it measured 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and 50 feet high.

5,000 interlocking fresh-cut bamboo poles were needed to create the installation, as well as 50 miles of nylon rope.

Vistors to the exhibit were invited to walk in and around the structure to get the full experience of the Big Bambu.

It is really a sight to see! Unfortunately, the exhibit was taken down last October....

BUT, you can always see the next best option here at Pistil!  And it will have pink lights for Valentine`s Day!
